English class mini essay about AI

Culture to me is something abstract. It is a part of you and it is all around you. ’Culture’ itself can mean a lot to different people. To me, it is where you are from and what you leave behind. Your religion and your ancestor, but also the art you created and texts you wrote throughout your life. It impacts others, not just you. Culture is meaningful and it makes up a part of someone’s identity.

I think AI can influence some people, but it won’t be real culture. To understand culture, you need to feel and be able to form connections. A machine can’t do that, it cannot understand the significance that culture has and it cannot understand how someone’s culture is a big part of their identity. AI might try and create or influence human culture, but nothing it will do will have any form of meaning, whether it be spiritual or even artistic.

I don’t believe machines can be creative. Creating something comes from making up something from scratch and establishing a connection between you and what you create. Someone painting will think of the skyline they saw earlier to recreate the clouds, they will think of how their third grade teacher told them to hold the brush. AI takes from artists and merges their art to create its own, it doesn’t create anything new with real meaning. Art has significance, Ai does not.

A lot of problems come to my mind from AI being used everyday. People using it think it’s the greatest thing and become lazy when it comes to doing real work. But others are able to take a step back and realise the impact it has on the environment and all of the jobs it is taking from us. Nobody is gaining anything from AI. We are simply destroying the environment, stealing from artists, replacing passion for usefulness and rapidity. AI causes so many problems yet nobody is able to admit it to themselves because ’’AI is so accessible and helps do a lot of stuff’’.
